The region of the Tuffaceous Maremma(Maremma Rupestre), characterized by the villages of Sovana, Sorano, Pitigliano, and Vitozza, is an area of great historical, archaeological, and naturalistic importance.

It's a land born from the fire of massive volcanic eruptions that, over four hundred thousand years ago, shaped central Italy and forged a unique landscape that can still be admired in all its splendor today. Tuff is a volcanic lava that, once solidified, remained soft yet at the same time stable and resistant, a characteristic that humans have always skillfully exploited.
