The period from the Aldobrandeschi to the Orsini families marked a flourishing Middle Ages in this region. These dynasties shaped the landscape and history, leaving behind a legacy of impressive fortifications a testament to their enduring influence

Beyond the panoramic views that are breathtaking upon arrival, the villages of Pitigliano, Sovana, and Sorano bear the marks of an illustrious past, shaped by the deeds of the great families who governed this land. Notably, the Aldobrandeschi and Orsini families, between the 11th and 16th centuries, embarked on mighty fortified constructions to protect a hardworking populace that fully reflected the pride and determination of their rulers.

Just one glance at the Orsini Palace in Pitigliano, the massive Orsini Fortress in Sorano, or even the town of Sovana, the so-called "Queen of Maremma," is enough to realize this.
